The Ministry of Antiquities on Monday received at the headquarters of the Egyptian Foreign Ministry four artifacts previously smuggled to the US.
Shaaban Abdel-Gawad، general supervisor of the Department of Antiquities، explained that the ministry had succeeded in December last year to prove ownership of these pieces in collaboration with the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Over the past year، the ministry of antiquities managed to recover dozens of artifacts smuggled abroad.
On Sunday، Egypt announced it had adopted an ambitious campaign to attract tourists through preserving its archeological heritage.
This comes within the state efforts to overcome the drop in the number of tourists as well as the country’s economic crisis that followed the 2011 uprising.
Tourism made the backbone of Egypt’s economy in the recent years.
However، tourist sector in the country has suffered a lot after a Russian passenger plane crash in late October، 2015 over Sinai، killing all 224 onboard.
