Over 100 haredim detained for attempt to disrupt Jerusalem Marathon
Sunday 19/March/2017 - 09:39 PM
Friday's Jerusalem Marathon، in which some 30،000 participants from 60 countries took part، wrapped up without any unusual incidents، but police were prepared for the possibility that anti-draft haredi activists might take advantage of the highly publicized event to demonstrate for the release of a haredi draft-dodger arrested last week، as Israel Hayom said. While the race was underway، police stopped three busloads of haredi protesters at Shoresh Junction who were en route to Jerusalem with plans to disrupt the marathon with a protest. A total of 120 haredim were detained for questioning and nine were eventually arrested. On Saturday evening، the nine suspects were brought into court to be arraigned. Six were released with restrictions، while three remained in custody.
