Head of St. Catherine city Sayed Abdel Sadek said Saturday in a statement to reporters that the city of St. Catherine received 110 tourists of various nationalities، including 60 foreigners and 50 Egyptians، during the past 24 hours.
All 110 tourists visited St. Catherine's Monastery، Mount Sinai، Saint Katherine Protectorate and Bedouin camps، Abdel Sadek explained.
He stressed that the city depends on daily tourism، pointing out that the proportion of tourism vary from time to time and increases during vacations and holidays.
Tourism officials expect an increase in the number of tourists visiting Egypt in the coming period، as European countries start to lift the flights ban to Sinai.
European countries and the US have imposed a flights ban to Sinai، after a Russian civilian plane crashed in Sinai، killing all passengers and the flight crew members، in October 2015.
The total number of tourists who visited Egypt reached 640179 tourists in February 2016، according to Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).
