Egypt’s President، Abdel Fatah Al-Sisi has received on Thursday، US Defense Secretary James Mattis، in the presence of Defense Minister، Sedqi Sobhi، US Ambassador to Cairo، Stephen Beecroft، and deputy national security Advisor، Dina Powell.
Presidency spokesman، Ambassador Alaa Youssef said that president، Sisi has welcomed Mattis for his first official visit in Egypt since he took office، expressing his keenness to boost military cooperation between both countries.
Sisi also stressed on the strong، and historic Egyptian-American relationships، stressing on Egypt’s keenness to develop these relations under the new American administration.
On the other hand، Mattis assured that his Country is looking forward to boost bilateral cooperation with Egypt in various fields.
Moreover، US Minister pointed out to Egypt’s significant role in the Middle East region، praising Egypt’s efforts to fight terrorism، and its stances regarding supporting the stability in the region. Noteworthy، On Wednesday، Mattis visited Riyadh where he met with King Salman bin Abdel-Aziz and senior Saudi officials.
He accused Iran of creating disorder in the Middle East، stressing his country's desire to thwart the Shiite country from cloning Lebanese Hezbollah Militias in Yemen.
During the meeting، Mattis hailed the role played by Riyadh to maintain stability in the region as well as helping Jordan and Egypt with the Syrian refugees.
