Thousands of Egyptians started Saturday to flock to Air Defense Stadium in Cairo، to attend Pope Francis’ mass.

Egyptian citizens entered through the stadium’s main gates، while holding the country’s flag and balloons، expressing their joy at the historic event.

More than 25،000 Christians from all parts of the country are expected to attend the mass held by Pope Francis.

Security forces، including special operations forces، will secure the pope during his scheduled activities، as several members of the police force have been deployed along the roads leading to the stadium.

In addition، security forces have set up checkpoints in the vicinity of the pope’s residence in Cairo.

Pope Francis arrived Friday at Cairo international airport، on a two-day official visit to Egypt، in order to express solidarity with the Christian community in Egypt and deliver a speech to an international conference on peace.
