The ambassadors of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries in Cairo released a joint statement on Friday encouraging tourists from all over the world to visit Egypt.

The statement came in response to messages that went viral on WhatsApp، inciting the Gulf citizens not to travel to Egypt.

The messages claimed some tourists were forced to pay bribes to passport officers at Cairo International Airport.

The statement confirmed all the messages were fabricated.

“Such claims are baseless and far from the Gulf-Egyptian bonds established over decades of cooperation and mutual trust and work for the benefit of the Arab region،” the statement read.

The ambassadors expressed their deep surprise over the allegations that stir confusion and spread sedition، calling upon all Gulf citizens not to believe them.
