CAPMAS: Poverty rate in Egypt reaches 27.8%

The Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) reported that the poverty rate in Egypt reached 27.8% in its latest census in 2015.

Upper Egypt's governorates occupied the largest percentage of poverty.

The statistical reports issued by the Agency indicated that the percentage of the poor in Egypt reached the highest level in the governorates of Sohag and Assiut by 66%، followed by Qena governorate by 58%، while the lowest percentage was in Port Said governorate by 6.7% While 11.6% reported that 18% of Cairo's population were poor.

The poverty rate survey revealed that the percentage of the poor in 2015 is the highest since 2000 by 27.8%.

The percentage of the poor increased from 16.7% in 19992000 to 21.8% in 20082009، 25.2% in 2011 and 26.3% in 20122013.
