There could be another fresh face on the South African coaching scene in the near future، with French coach، Rene Girard، attracting interest.
Girard، who is famous for having led Montpellier to the Ligue 1 title in 2012، is said to have caught the eye of three clubs in the Absa Premiership and is keen to explore his options in Mzansi as he contemplates the next move in his career. The 63-year-old has spent time with Montpellier and Lille in the past، while also spending several years working for the French national team as head coach at U16، U19 and U21 level.
As reported in this week’s issue of Soccer Laduma، Girard’s agent، Jihed Taniche، says that he also put his name forward for the Bafana Bafana job، however it was too late as SAFA had already hired Stuart Baxter.
Taniche said، "There have already been three clubs that have shown an interest in working with Rene from South Africa and we're excited to assess the options on the table.
"Rene is very open to the idea of working in South Africa، he loves the country and would like to have an experience of working there. He put forward his name for the national team job but it was too late."
