Mohamed Al-Rawy، member of Al-Azhar’s Supreme Council of Scholars، passed away this morning aged 89.
His son، Dr. Osama Al-Rawi، professor at the Faculty of Engineering، Al-Azhar University، said that the funeral prayer will be held following Friday prayers at Al-Azhar Mosque.
Sheikh Mohammed Al-Rawi was born on February 1، 1928 in Riva، a village in Upper Egypt’s governorate of Assiut، he memorized the Holy Quran at an early age at the local Quranic school (Kuttab)، then he was enrolled at the Assiut's Azharite institute.
Al-Rawy latter joined Faculty of Islamic Theology in Cairo، where he to obtained his first academic degree in 1954، then a postgrad and PhD degree from the Faculty of Arabic Language - Al-Azhar University in 1956.
Shaykh Al-Rawy wrote several books، and his writing discussed several topics including inviting others to Islam، The holy Quraan and contemporary civilization، and others.
