President Abdel Fattah El Sisi stressed on Thursday that relations between Egypt and the US are strategic and long-standing، saying Egypt is keen on promoting these relations to better serve the interests of the two peoples، state-run MENA reported.
During his meeting with director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) Mike Pompeo، Sisi lauded the strength of security and military relations binding Egypt and the US، saying these strong relations contributed to laying down the foundations of peace and stability in the region and addressing regional and international challenges.
Presidential Spokesman Alaa Youssef said Pompeo praised strategic relations with Egypt، stressing that the US is keen on enhancing relations with Egypt in all domains، especially in the security domain.
Pompeo also lauded Egypt's pioneering role in confronting terrorism.
Talks between Sisi and the CIA director tackled a number of regional and international issues، including the crisis with Qatar، anti-terrorism efforts and developments in the region، the spokesman said.
The spokesman said President Sisi underlined the importance of adopting a standard approach while confronting terrorist organizations، firmly facing terror-sponsoring countries and addressing radical ideas feeding terrorism.
Sisi referred to efforts exerted by Egypt to settle crises in many countries in the region but in a way that preserves the integrity of those countries' territories and their sovereignty.
