In the latest episode of "Jay Leno’s Garage،" Jay gets behind the wheel of a 2015 Divergent Blade. For those unaware، Divergent 3D’s CEO، Kevin Czinger، explains the inspiration for and execution of this two-seater، 3-D-printed supercar. autoweek said
Powering the innovative supercar is an engine from the last generation of Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution sedans، the 4B11. Now displacing 2.5 liters، 0.5 liter more than it did in the Mitsubishi، the turbocharged I4 sends over 700 hp through a Holinger six-speed sequential transmission. While 700 hp might not seem like much، with hypercars like Aston Martin’s Valkyrie promising four-digit figures، the turbocharged I4 only has to move around 1،400 pounds.
The ultralight Blade chassis is 3-D printed out of aluminum and titanium، with some carbon fiber thrown in for good measure. There are some mechanical fasteners keeping these pieces together، but a lot of the structural bonding takes place with epoxies and Interlocking joints.
What’s it like to drive? Well، check out the video above and find out.
