A mother whose husband died in his sleep when she banished him to the sofa has found love again – with his brother.
Ashley Murrell said she was left feeling guilty after a row she had with Mikey whose body she discovered the following morning. MetroUK reported.
She is now urging other people not to go to sleep without solving arguments first.
But it has since emerged that, united in grief, she has grown close to Mikey’s brother, Chris, and they started a relationship two months after his death on May 16.
A friend told the Sun: ‘Chris and Ashley have been through so much but they have really been there for each other.
‘It’s strange how from something so awful, something good can happen. They are really happy together.’
Yesterday, we reported that Mikey, 36, and Ashley fell out when he returned from work after a 16-hour shift.
Ashley was concerned that he was working himself into the ground and they fell out.
She has since learned that he was actually working overtime to save up for a holiday to Prague for their anniversary earlier this month.
Now she has spoken out about her tragic story, telling people to always kiss their loved ones goodnight and not to go to sleep on an argument.
She said: ‘I felt so guilty. I was so angry with myself for making him sleep on the sofa. I still find it so hard to think that my last words to him were out of anger.
‘When I found out he’d been saving to take us on an anniversary holiday it was awful – heartbreaking doesn’t begin to cover it.
‘Losing Mikey has changed my entire perspective on life. Life is too short to go to bed angry and not to spend every moment you can with your family.’
Mum-of-three Ashley, from Wellington, Somerset, married Mikey in 2010.
He adopted her daughter Morgan and the couple had twins Mikey and Lisa in 2013, with their dad going above and beyond for his kids, Ashley said.
Ashley said: ‘He would work 16-hour shifts, seven days a week just so he could save up enough to take us all to Disney every year. He was so worn out but he would do anything just to see us smile.
‘But the hours he was working were just getting too much. He was so exhausted all the time and he was running himself into the ground and his health was going downhill fast.
‘When he came home that night he was a mess, I have never seen him so exhausted. I couldn’t stand seeing him like that and I got angry. I was sick of it.
‘I had a go at him and told him to sleep on the sofa which was stupid because I really just wanted him around more.
‘When I came out of the bedroom and saw him the next morning I knew something was wrong straight away. He was lying exactly where I left him and his face was all discoloured – he looked grey.’
She broke down at the discovery, screaming ‘he’s dead’ and running into the street, where she blacked out from the grief.
A post mortem revealed Mikey choked in his sleep but the cause behind it was inconclusive, Ashley said.
