Minister of Culture، Helmy el-Namnam kicked off yesterday، Thursday، the Egyptian National Theater Festival 10th session، which is held from July 13 to 27 ، headed by critic Hassan Attia، with Sharjah as the festival’s guest of honor of 2017، at Cairo Opera House.
Head of the Cultural Production Sector، Khaled Galal، head of the Artistic Theatre House Ismail Mokhtar، and Head of Cultural Development Fund، Ahmed Awad، as well as renowned actress Fardous Abdel Hamid، and a number of celebrities and public figures had attended.
The session holds the name of late renowned theatre critic، academic and writer Nehad Selaiha، who passed away earlier this year، and will honor Selaiha as well as five other symbolic figures of the Egyptian theater.
"The honored figures will be the main focus of the opening night، either by honoring them and giving them awards on stage or through short films featuring their careers." said the Director of the festival's opening ceremony، Osama Fawzy.
The festival budget amounted to EGP 1 million، while the value of the awards ranged from EGP15 to 35 thousands per award، Attia revealed.
The festival activities will be free of charge، and will feature the performance of 36 theater groups، and will also feature new sections such as "Children's Theater" and “special needs” shows as well as will host intellectual conferences and a seminar.
Noteworthy، Nehad Selaiha was a prominent Egyptian academic and theatre critic who was recognized and valued by theatre makers.
She authored numerous books and articles in both Arabic and English، varying from theory and criticism to translations of plays and critiques.
