The global campaign against Qatar’s financing of terrorism has prepared a dossier on violation of education rights in Syria for submission to Unesco، according to "Gulf News" website. The dossier includes violations committed by the regime of Syrian President Bashar Al Assad and the Qatari government against educational institutions and Syrian students.
“The Qatari government’s funding of terrorist groups in conflict zones in several Syrian towns and villages has led to the closure and demolition of a large number of schools and educational institutions and depriving millions of Syrian students from their education،” said Dr Yousuf Omar، spokesperson of the campaign. Omar made the statement as he opened an exhibition displaying drawings and paintings by Syrian refugee children and students in diaspora. The exhibition، taking place at the Social Cultural Centre in Austria، featured more than 40 paintings depicting the negative effects of depriving children from education as a result of the systematic practices by the Syrian regime and Qatar’s financing of terrorist groups that fighting in Syria. These practices contributed to destroying schools and universities as well as promoting most of the Syrian people to leave their country and immigrate to new countries، fearing for their lives. This led to the Syrian exodus in the diaspora. On the sidelines of the exhibition، a seminar was organised to highlight the fundamental right of Syrians to education، the international law and Unesco’s role in protecting peoples’ rights to education during war times.
