Around 9 Spanish tourists and 3 Egyptians were rescued on Friday after the boat that was carrying them to a diving area sank in El qwah area, in the Red Sea Governorate.
Chairman of the Board of Directors of maritime rescue association and environmental protection in the Red Sea, Hassan Al-Tayeb, stated that the association received a distress call of the accident and were able to rescue the tourists without any injuries.
"The cause of the accident is not discovered yet" He added.
Red Sea resorts are a key tourist attraction in Egypt. The sector has yet to recover from three years of political unrest that has sapped one of the economy's main sources of foreign currency.
