Zamalek chairman Mortada Mansour has expressed his happiness at his side’s performance after their 1-1 draw with Entag El-Harby in the Egyptian Premier League opener.
This marked the White Knights first game under the leadership of the new manager Nebojša Jovović. Despite being held to a draw، Mansour has praised the Montenegrin coach and his side’s style of the play.
“I am really happy with the team’s performance despite the draw against Entag El-Harby،” Mansour told the Youth and Sports Radio channel after the game.
“This is the first game of the season، it’s inappropriate to criticise the players now. I liked our attacking style of play and the game plan of the manager.
Mansour added that his side were unlucky to miss more than one scoring chance، adding that their opponents scored from one mistake.
“We have many new players who need more game time to adapt. The way we started the season is good،” he added.
The game witnessed the introduction of several new faces after the club’s massive overhaul during the summer transfer window. Entag’s Omar El-Saed opened the scoring around the 10-minute mark، before Congolese striker Kabongo Kasongo equalised for Zamalek in the 27th minute.
The White Castle’s chairman then talked about his criteria of evaluating the manager: “I evaluate the manager based on the team’s performance and the chances we create during the game، if the team fail to create chances then it means the manager is failing.”
“The team with Nebojša created a lot of chances and with some luck we could have won the game،” the outspoken chairman concluded.
