Egypt has called on the Security Council to hold an emergency session on Wednesday to discuss the developments of the Rohingya crisis in Myanmar, Spokesman of Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid said.

Abu Zeid explained that both Sweden and Britain joined Egypt and requested to hold the meeting, as well as the support of Kazakhstan and Senegal delegations, as they are members of the Security Council.

During the meeting between the Security Council and the Secretary General of the United Nations on Tuesday, Egypt highlighted the need to convene an urgent meeting to stop the bloodshed and the violence against Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar, and to give them their legitimate rights, and to ensure safety and security.
