Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry held talks with EU High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs Federica Mogherini during the UN General Assembly session in New York to discuss ways to strengthen the Egyptian-European relations.
They also discussed the need to work on implementing the priorities Egypt-EU document, as well as to complete the support framework for the financial programme for the period 2017-2020.
Spokesman of the Egyptian Foreign Ministry Ahmed Abu Zeid said that Shoukry expressed Egypt’s interest in cooperating with the European Union on migration issues, stressing the importance of focusing on the developmental aspects and the causes of the illegal immigration.
Egypt is exerting considerable effort to control the borders and the burdens caused by receiving refugees and migrants, Shoukry added.
The meeting also discussed the Egyptian efforts in achieving Palestinian national unity, dealing with the situation in Gaza Strip, the developments on Qatar crisis, and the situation in Iraq.
