New discovery spells out secrets of Ikhnaton’s Amarna in Minya

The Egyptian- British commission led by Dr Barry Kemp، a professor of antiquities at Cambridge University، discovered the head part of Ikhnaton statue in a dig at Amarna area in Minya Governorate 160 km south to Cairo.
The commission member unearthed the ante hall of the Grand Aton in Amarna.
Dr Mustafa Waziri، General-Secretary of the Higher Council for Antiquities، said that the recent discovery is a very important one. It is not only links to an important king in Ancient Egypt but also it sheds light on enigma of Amarna which was the capital city of Egypt under Ikhnaton.
Era of Ikhnaton gained more importance. He called for monotheism against the overwhelming influence of Amun’s priests in Thebes.
