Eastern Cairo Prosecution announced the circumstances that shrouded the death of Coptic priest Samaan Shehata in Al-Marg، in the eastern outskirts of Cairo، last week.
it said that the defendant was struck by financial hardship، which prompted him for the robbery، the ill-fated priest was passing by where the defendant planned for his theft.
the priest Samaan Shehata tried to stop him from stealing، which was the reason behind the suspect's attack with a sharp blade on his head، which immediately claimed the deceased’s life.
Prosecution has ordered the autopsy of Shehata’s body.
The Prosecution are currently going through several hearings from a number of eyewitnesses over the incident to find out the causes of the crime.
Earlier reports said that Shehata، was in Cairo when a young unemployed man blocked the way in front of his vehicle and asked him to step down from it. The thug hit the priest’s head with cleaver and fled.
These reports suggested that the crime is driven by hate and has been executed by an extremist affiliated to IS.
Only investigations would confirm or refute such theories.
