Egypt’s President، Abdel Fatah Al-Sisi held a meeting، earlier today، Sunday with Defense Minister، Sedqi Sobhi، interior Minister، Magdi Abdel Ghafar، General intelligence head، Khaled Fawzy، in addition to a number of security leaders.
During the meeting Sisi listened to a detailed explanation regarding the shoot-out that took place after the police national security unit were attempting to raid the hideout located in Bahariya Oasis، leading to an exchange of fire initiated by the militants.
Sisi offered his deep condolences over the terrorist incidents martyrs، stressing that they are role models in courage، and loyalty.
Moreover، Sisi directs to intensify the security and military efforts in order to secure the state’s borders from penetration attempts، assuring that Egypt will continue its war against terrorism.
Noteworthy، At least 14 police officers were killed while 8 others were injured in a shoot-out during a raid on a suspected militant hideout in Al-Bahariya Oasis، located in Egypt's Western Desert and part of Giza governorate.
A number of suspected militants were also killed and security forces are continuing to comb the area.
Egyptian army has struggled to crush militant violence based in Sinai، which has killed hundreds of police and troops and at times expanded to mainland cities including Cairo.
Egyptian military and security forces have been battling a dangerous insurgency in the north of the peninsula since the ouster of former President Mohamed Morsi in June 2013.
The terrorist militants have launched several major attacks، most recently targeting Cairo and other cities with the loss of dozens of lives.
