Cairo criminal court resumes on Saturday the trial of 213 suspects of Ansar Bait Al-Maqdis group، on charges of assassination of police officers، attempted assassination of interior minister Mohamed Ibrahim and explosions near security facilities.

The late attorney general، Hisham Barakat، had imposed media gag order over the trial، but the court lifted the gag over court sessions and upheld it over testimonies and investigations.

The prosecution also accused the defendants of setting up and joining terror group، assaulting the citizens’ rights and freedoms، undermining the national unity and social peace، espionage with Hamas، sabotage and homicide.

Investigations revealed that they received military training in camps of Ezzeddin al Qassam، the military wing of Palestinian Hamas movement.

Investigations also revealed that they planned to target ships passing through the Suez Canal.

Ansar Bait Al-maqdis is a militant Group based in North Sinai، currently known as SinaiProvince، after pledging allegiance in 2014 to the regional radical militant group the Islamic state (ISIS).

The group has claimed responsibility of several attacks in North Sinai.

In 2015، the Cairo Criminal Court designated the group as a terrorist organization، following a request from the prosecutor General.
