Egyptian President Al Sisi laid the foundation stone for second phase of MENA’s largest fish farm of Berkat Ghalioun، located in the country’s coastal governorate of Kafr El-Sheikh.
Sisi on Saturday inaugurated the first phase of the project which is initially built on an area of 12 thousand feddans، of which 3 thousand acres total area was allocated for the first phase.
The first phase is capable of producing 2،000 tons of shrimp، 3،000 tons of saltwater fish، and 1،600 tons of rainwater fish per cycle.
Upon completion، the project is expected to cover 70 percent of Egyptian produce of fish، a key goal in covering local consumption and exporting abroad.
The project also includes industrial and housing areas، in a space of 55 feddans.
Several roads have been constructed، with a distance of 11 kilometres and a cost of EGP 112 million، for ease in reaching the project’s destinations، according to Kafr El-Sheikh Governor El-Sayed Nasr.
