Egypt's ambassador in Nicosia Mai Taha Khalil said that President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and his Cypriot counterpart Nicos Anastasiades will hold talks on Monday to discuss bilateral relations and regional and international issues of common concern.
Khalil said in a statement to the Middle East News Agency on Sunday that the Sisi will address the Cypriot parliament tomorrow and meet with the Cypriot parliament speaker.
The ambassador noted that the president will also participate in the Egyptian-Cypriot Business Forum، which will focus on ways to enhance economic and trade relations and make use of the investment opportunities available in the two countries. He pointed out that the Cypriot president is the first European president to visit Egypt after the revolution of 30 June. Al Sisi is due to fly to the Cypriot capital of Nicosia on Monday in an official two-day visit، during which he will participate in the Tripartite summit between Egypt، Cyprus and Greece.
The upcoming tripartite meeting will be the fifth such meeting between El-Sisi، Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades، and Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras in recent years.
The first meeting was held in Cairo in November 2014، the second in Nicosia in April 2015 and the third in Athens in December 2015.
During the fourth tripartite summit in Cairo last year، the three countries agreed to work together to stop irregular migration، putting the issue as a priority.
The discussions also involved talks on energy، preserving the ecosystem in the Mediterranean، and activating maritime transport between the three countries.
In recent months، meeting between officials of the three countries have taken place in preparation for the November summit، the latest being a meeting between the three ministers in September on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
