Official Spokesman of the Foreign Ministry Ahmed Abu Zeid said that the Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry held a telephone conversation on Sunday afternoon with US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson.
Abu Zeid added that the two sides discussed various aspects of bilateral relations and the ongoing developments in Egypt.
With regard to the Egyptian-American relations، the two ministers reviewed the outcomes of the mutual visits during the recent period، especially the visit of the Egyptian Parliament Speaker Dr. Ali Abdel-Aal to the United States.
The US Secretary of State expressed his aspiration to pay a visit to Egypt during the coming few days.
The two sides stressed the keenness of the two sides to give a strong push to the strategic relationship between the two countries، Abu Zeid said.
He added that close relationship is reflected in the volume of cooperation and joint projects that benefit both the Egyptian and American peoples.
He also added that the ministers stressed the importance of each party's understanding of the challenges facing the other side، especially the economic and security challenges experienced by Egypt.
Abu Zeid added that the foreign ministers of Egypt and the United States discussed in detail the latest developments in the region، especially the current tension caused by the Lebanese crisis and its repercussions، the Iranian intervention to destabilize a number of Arab countries’ stability، the Yemeni crisis with its security and humanitarian implications.
Abu Zaid، revealed that the Egyptian Foreign Minister briefed the US Secretary of State on the developments of the Great Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) file and the stumbling block in the technical track for the preparation of studies that would determine the possible impacts of the dam on the downstream countries.
