Head of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) Sir Suma Chakrabarti said that the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) plays an active role in supporting Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (SMEs).
He added that the CBE is keen to stabilize and develop the Middle East region. He pointed out that EBRD’s investments in Egypt would exceed $1.5 billion.
In an interview with “ Aswak W Aamal" show aired on the Privately-owned “ON LIVE” TV channel، Suma said that € 200 million were funded from donors for consultancy services.
He stressed that he is working on providing consultative services for the success of small businesses، confirming that he is targeting about 40% of the green economic investment by 2020. He said that Egypt owns massive potential investment opportunities in various sectors.
Suma went on to say that، the EBRD pledges to provide € 500 million to the implementations of the solar power plant in Aswan، which would secure about two percent of the energy capacity.
He expressed his happiness with the participation with the Egyptian government in its carrying out its reform policy. Suma added that the EBRD is currently investing € 3 billion in 70 projects in Egypt.
He pointed out that Egypt is the second largest market for the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development، confirming that the bank is working on the fields of investment، consultative services and reforming policies.
