Egyptian-European Business Council under the Chairmanship of Prominent Businessman، Mohamed Abul Enein strongly rejected on Thursday any U.S. decision to recognize Jerusalem as The Capital of Israel، or to transfer the U.S. Embassy there.
In an official statement، The Council said “along 22 years since the US Congress passed a law to transfer the U.S. Embassy to Jerusalem in 1995، No US president was able to implement this law in recognition of its gravity and consequences، recognizing that Jerusalem is one of the final status issues that must be resolved within the framework of negotiations”.
Abul Enein pointed out that Egypt’s success in achieving Palestinian national reconciliation created a suitable atmosphere and a rare opportunity to achieve peace in the Middle East.
He said: “ President Abdel Fatah Al-Sisi stressed in his speech before The UN General Assembly that this opportunity may not be repeated again، thus he was keen to call on the Palestinian and Israeli parties، the international community and The US President to make a good use of this opportunity in order to achieve just settlement of the Palestinian -Israeli conflict based on international references”.
He added “Instead of the US administration taking the advantage of the opportunity created by Egypt to achieve a just and comprehensive peace that will bring the entire region to the stage of stability and development، we got surprised by this grave and unjustified decision، which will have dire consequences not only in undermining the peace process، but also in losing confidence in any neutral US efforts to resolve the conflict”
Moreover، Abul Enein affirmed that all world countries reject to recognize Jerusalem as the Capital of Israel، calling on The United Nations، the Security Council، The European Union، The Arab League، The Islamic Cooperation Organization، and world parliaments to act urgently and resolutely to confront the US decision.
He also underlined that he had contacted several members in the European Parliament، the US congress، and the inter-Parliamentary Union، who had come out against the decision. Moreover، Abul Enein called on the US Administration، and all its institutions to respond to the international position، the abolition of the law to transfer The US Embassy to Jerusalem and work to revive the peace process to reach a just and comprehensive solution to The Arab-Israeli Conflict.
Abul Enein also stressed that Jerusalem is a red Line not just for Palestinians، but for Arabs، Muslims and Christians everywhere because of its sacred importance to the followers of the three monotheistic religions. He warned that The US decision would inflame the anger of more than 1.5 billion Muslims around the world due to the status of Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa Mosque، the first qibla and the third of the two Holy Mosques.
