Head of the Pharmaceuticals Division at the Federation of Egyptian Chamber of Commerce (FEDCOC) Dr. Ali Ouf said that Egypt imports 95% of the pharmaceutical industry's requirements starting from the medical raw materials to the packaging tools of the medicines.
In an interview with “Sabah On” talk show aired on the privately owned “OnLive” TV satellite channel، Ouf stressed the necessity to inject more investments into the pharmaceutical sector، noting that the government should remove all obstacles hindering investment in this sector.
The head of the Pharmaceutical Division of the Chamber of Commerce has requested providing a number of 10 molecules to the under construction pharmaceutical factories and companies، which have been licensed since 2010.
Egypt’s pharmaceutical industry faces regulatory obstacles beyond the economic environment، including delayed Governmental approvals for licensing، lax intellectual property right enforcement، and an undesirable pricing scheme.
These obstacles have negatively impacted the various players in the industry.
