Tourism Syndicate Chairman Bassem Halaka said on Sunday that the Russian tourists make up more than 55% of the volume of occupancy rate in Sharm El-Sheikh and Hurghada.
It is expected that nearly 2 million Russian tourists will visit Egypt per year، after the resumption of flights between the two countries، Halaka added in a statement to Sabah El Balad program broadcasted on Sada ElBalad channel.
Meanwhile، Head of the Tourism Investors Association in Sharm Al Sheikh، Hisham Ali said that Signing Documents on Resumption of Direct Flights between Egypt and Russia by next February has not only tourism benefits but political، economic positive effects.
These positive effects are represented in re-opening the closed hotels، Ali added in a statement to Sada ElBalad news website.
Once the Russian tourist movement is resumed to Sharm El Sheikh، the tourist occupancy rate will increase to 60%، Ali added.
Russian and Egypt have signed documents on the resumption of direct flights between the two countries after a 2-year break. Air traffic will resume on February 1، 2018.
In 2015، Moscow suspended flights between Russia and Egypt after a Russian passenger plane crashed over the Sinai peninsula، killing all 224 people on board.
