Sisi to Italian Interior Minister: “Egypt has strong will to reach truth behind Regeni’s murder”

President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi held a meeting today with Italian Interior Minister Marco Minetti.
Ambassador Bassam Radi، Spokesman for the Presidency، said that the meeting tackled ways of enhancing bilateral relations between the two countries and exchanging views on international and regional issues of common interest.
The President stressed the importance of enhancing cooperation between Egypt and Italy at various fields and achieving strategic partnership between the two friendly countries.

He pointed to the importance of reaching a consensus in the visions adopted by the two countries on the settlement of the Libyan crisis، which is based on the reconstruction of state institutions، foremost of which is the national army، parliament and government in preparation for holding general elections during 2018.

On the other hand، the President confirmed the strong will of Egypt to reach the truth behind Julio Regini’s murder، through the high judicial cooperation between the Egyptian and Italian Prosecutions، which scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting to discuss the positive developments achieved in this regard.
The Italian Interior Minister praised the statements made by President Sisi on the Egypt’s determination to reach the full truth behind the murder of a 28-year-old Cambridge PhD Italian student Giulio Regeni.
He stressed that the coming period would witness more joint cooperation، especially in the field of combating illegal migration and counterterrorism، as well as intensifying joint efforts to enhance cooperation in economic relations by injecting more Italian investment into Egypt.
President Al-Sisi expressed his sincere gratitude to the Italian President for his sincere condolences to Egypt on the victims of terrorism and his support to deepen relations between the two countries.
Giulio Regeni was an Italian Cambridge University graduate who was abducted and tortured to death in Egypt.
Regeni's mutilated and half-naked corpse was found in a ditch alongside the Cairo-Alexandria highway on the outskirts of Cairo on February 3، 2016.
