The Maulana Azad Centre for Indian Culture of the Embassy of India in Cairo organizes “MACIC Roundtable”، a monthly seminar series involving youth، academicians، culture lovers، civil society on issues of mutual interest to India and Egypt. The sixteenth edition of the monthly series of MACIC Roundtable will be a seminar on “Sustainable Tourism: New Avenues for Development” which will be held at 4 pm on January 11، 2018 in the premises of MACIC. The theme is particularly relevant as the role of tourism in contemporary times is increasingly being recognized at the international fora and by the decision makers around the world as a sector of immense importance for meeting the goals of trade، economic growth and sustainable development. The sector assumes primary importance in the wake of the renewed commitment of the international community to pursue environmentally sustainable activities and the ideas of “Green tourism” and “Responsible tourism” have immense potential in this regard both as a means of creating new jobs، supporting local economy and reducing poverty and at the same time play a huge role in preserving natural and cultural heritage of the host countries. The discussion would focus on all these sub themes with a primary emphasis on sharing experiences from developments in the space of tourism in countries like India and Egypt which have tremendous scope and potential to benefit from this sector. The discussion shall also explore the potential of public-private partnerships and the use of technology to effectively leverage opportunities from sustainable tourism.
Eminent speakers will elaborate on the theme followed by an interactive session with the audience. This edition of MACIC Roundtable will feature Mrs.ManalAbdalSalaam، Undersecretary for International and Public Relations، Ministry of Tourism; Dr. Mohamed Al Masry، Director General، Egyptian Tourism Authority; Mr.Reuben Katariya، General Manager، Oberoi Egypt and Mr. Sanjay Kandhari، Branch Head، Satguru Travels، who will elaborate on the theme followed by an interactive session with the audience.
