Michael Wolff's new gossipy political tell-all، Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House، has made the bestseller lists after being published on January 5، four days ahead of schedule، forbes reported.
The bombshell book portrays President Donald Trump as incompetent. with little understanding of the office. The book has been the talk of every town in the country after excerpts were published in various news outlets this week.
Citing "unprecedented demand،" publisher Henry Holt & Co. pushed the publication date to Friday، January 5th from the 9th. The move prompted mass exoduses to local bookstores and online distributors — bookstores in major cities have sold out of their first order. People in Washington، D.C.، lined up at midnight with the windchill at -3 degrees، declaring the release a "D.C. moment." Kramerbooks، a famed D.C. bookstore، sold out of the book in just 20 minutes، and Democratic mega-donor Tom Steyer reported bought a copy of "Fire and Fury" for every member of Congress.
The online demand for the book is similarly unprecedented. Fire and Fury shot to the top of Amazon's booklist. The Kindle and audio editions of the book are selling fast as well; the Kindle and audiobook are respectively No. 2 and No. 3 on Amazon’s best-seller list. Barnes & Noble lists the book as being "temporarily out of stock" on its website.
The book's popularity comes on the heels of backlash from the Whitehouse. Trump's private attorney sent the author and publisher of Fire and Fury a cease-and-desist letter on Thursday demanding a “full retraction and apology." Before the book went on sales، Trump tweeted، “I authorized Zero access to White House (actually turned him down many times) for author of phony book! I never spoke to him for book. Full of lies، misrepresentations and sources that don’t exist. Look at this guy’s past and watch what happens to him and Sloppy Steve!”
Despite Trump's claims that the book is not factually accurate، Wolff stands by his work. With extensive access to the White House and Trump himself during the last year، he has stated that he has audio recordings of interviews and defends the book's reporting. However، pushing the book up from its slated publication date has had some ramifications — Fire and Fury reportedly has many typos due to the rush to publish.
The President's public ire at the book seems to be the cause of the unusually strong interest in the book — in fact، Wolff thanked Trump on Twitter for trying to block the book.
