Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas will meet his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin to set an international resolution avoiding Trump’s decision of moving U.S embassy to occupied East Jerusalem، said Fatah Movement official Ambassador Hazem Abu-Shanab.
In remarks to Sada El Balad، Abu-Shanab added that the Palestinian Authority is striving to block the American decision.
Russia will have an active role in this regard. I hope that Russia will be an alternative to America in sponsoring peace process between Palestinians and Israelis، Abu-Shanab said.
He pointed out that both the Palestinian Authority and Palestinian people are no longer accepting US mediation in any upcoming peace process. Therefore، the Russian side must be encouraged in order to be more involved in a political process in the region which will guarantee the rights of the Palestinian people.
Noteworthy، on the 6th of December، Trump decided to move U.S embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. A move that inflamed tension in the region and destroyed the prospects of peace in the Middle East.
UN General Assembly convened on 21 December for an emergency session، passed a resolution supported by decisive 128 against 9 with 35 abstentions declaring Trump's decision "null and void”.
