Former Assistant foreign minister for African affairs، Ambassador، Mona Amr said that Egyptian-Ethiopian strategic relations are important.
In televised statements to “Sabah ON” Program aired on “On Live”، Amr added that both countries are keen to boost cooperation in various fields.
Moreover، she noted that there is an economic cooperation between the two countries reresented in the establishing of joint investment council، and the major egyptian industrial zone in Ethiopia.
Mona pointed out that Ethiopian Prime Minister to Egypt comes in response to the Egypt’s proposal to bring in the World Bank as a neutral intermediary in the Renaissance Dam negotiations.
Noteworthy، Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry and his Ethiopian counterpart Workneh Gebeyehu held talks on Wednesday on means to boost bilateral relation between the two countries، in addition to discussing regional issues of common concern.
In a statement، Egypt’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid said that Shoukry stressed that such regular meetings between the two ministers reflect the keenness to maintain close bilateral relations.
Shoukry added that upcoming presidential summit، which is set to be held for the first time، represents a clear message to the public opinion that both leaders seek to push forward for more cooperation and to overcome any obstacles to achieve the desired goals.
The talks also tackled the developments of negotiations on the Ethiopian renaissance dam، as well as a number of regional issues of mutual concern، especially the situation in Somalia and South Sudan.
