Infiniti has released the Q Inspiration concept car at the Detroit Auto Show 2018، express reported.
Nissan’s luxury carmaker's new concept car displays a new styling direction for the brand and debuts updated features that will inform future vehicles the carmaker launches.
The four-door concept car has a coupe-style swooping rear with a panoramic glass roof stretching the length of the body from the windscreen.
A new wraparound rear-light signature and LED badging also features.
The entire body has smooth uninterrupted curves across it، with just two powerful grooves cut into the bonnet.
A brand-new grille with a sharp aggressive design is flanked by narrow slit front-lights.
The grille itself could indicate that the future styling for Infiniti’s electric car range as the holes in it are a tight beehive and could just be a creative way to style an EV - which does not require a grille.
”Our Detroit concept car heralds a new generation of Infiniti: a seamless and stunning new design philosophy demonstrating Infiniti artistry in the new age of autonomy and breakthrough drivetrains،” said Alfonso Albaisa to AutoCar.
It will sit on a new platform، not shared by parent company Nissan، that will be used for other future models.
The car will seat four passengers and will come with all-wheel drive.
Interior space on the car is enormous due to the omission of the middle rear seat and the side doors at the rear giving greater access into the cabin.
Passengers gain access to the car using a touchscreen moutned to the side of the door، as the handles have been removed to give the car its sleek body shape.
The four large seat are finished in lucky material and have plenty of headroom due to the large panoramic glass roof.
In the front of the car the dashboard has been replaced by a number of screens giving it a cleaner and more refined look.
A square multifunctional steering wheel and mini screen mounted to the centre console will control the three new dashboard screens.
The centre console stretches from the front to the rear، where two additional screens for the rear passengers are mounted to.
Powering the car is a new VC-Turbo four-cylinder engine and is the first variable compression ratio engine which is said to give the petrol engine، the efficiency of a hybrid or diesel.
The VC-Turbo engine offers any compression ratio between 8:1 (for high performance) and 14:1 (for high efficiency).
“The beauty of the VC-Turbo powertrain is that it is a global technology،” said François Bancon، Vice President، Product and Programs.
“While we have plans to electrify our product portfolio in the future، drivers all around the world are still reliant on internal combustion engines for their transport needs.
“This revolutionary engine offers a compelling blend of turbocharged performance and high efficiency. These qualities need not be unique to hybrids and diesels.”
It also features a version of Nissan’s ProPilot semi-autonomous driver assistance systems.
Previously the carmaker stated its intention to bring an electric car to the market by 2019.
Last year it revealed the Prototype 9 which could also be on display in Detroit.
It will not go into production but some of the technology used to develop its electric powertrain could still be used by the manufacturer over the coming years.
