Sheikh Ahmed El-Tayyeb، grand imam of Al Azhar confirmed that US president Donald Trum’s decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital is not accepted by any religions.

He pointed out that if US vice president Mike Pence was a true believer; he would be one of the first opponents to Trump’s decision.

In an interview with the CNN on Thursday، Tayyeb said، "Trump’s decision is rejected by all religions” adding، “Religions aim to liberate people from tyranny and tyrants، in addition to the domination of power and arms”.

“President Donald Trump's decision to move the US Embassy in Israel to Jerusalem was "rash and uncalculated and represented "aggression toward people، countries، cultures and civilizations،” Al-Tayeb added.
He added that Al-Azhar has a vital role in keeping the Arab and Islamic community’s will ready and vigilant to defend their case.

The White House announced on Monday that US vice president Mike Pence will tour the Middle East from January 20 to 23، during which he is scheduled to visit Egypt، Jordan and Israel.

Last month، leaders from the 57-member Organization of Islamic Cooperation recognized East Jerusalem as the "occupied capital" of a Palestinian state in response to Trump's announcement.

The group rejected Trump's move as "null and void" and said the "dangerous declaration" marked the US withdrawal from the Israeli-Palestinian peace process.
