Water produced from desalination projects in Egypt ‘is not potable’: Official

Water produced from desalination projects in Egypt is not potable، though Egypt uses it in agriculture field only، said Hani Younis، spokesman for Housing Ministry.

He added that the volume of investments in the sewage sector reached EGP 124 billion.

In remarks to “On Live” satellite channel today، Sunday، Younis added that Indonesia uses such water for drinking، but Egypt didn’t.

“The next conflict is a conflict over water، so Egypt is directing all these investments to provide the greatest amount of water،” Younis added.

He pointed out that desalinated water from the sea is used for drinking in all coastal cities in Egypt.

Acting Prime Minister، Dr Mustafa Madbouli announced that Egypt will construct desalination plants cost EGP 9.54 billion

The ministry is constructing a number in plants in the coastal cities in the Red Sea and other places to cope with scarcity of drinking water there.

Those plants cost at least EGP 9.540 billion.
