Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Dr. Mohamed Abdel Aati said، today، that Egypt does not oppose the establishment of dams in upstream countries، provided it does not have a clear negative impact on the country.
Abdel Aati said in statements at “The Third Water Conference of Mediterranean Countries” that climate changing and its negative impacts still threaten development efforts in the Mediterranean region.
He added that this problem requires cooperation to confront it and all countries should exchange experiences and information to provide cheap technologies that help implement projects to address and manage our water problems.
He pointed out that Egypt is cooperating with Sudan and Ethiopia to reduce the negative effects of Renaissance Dam on Egypt.
Abdel-Aati stressed that Egypt is currently in cooperation with Nile Basin countries in technical studies and economic feasibility of navigational corridor project which linking Lake Victoria to Mediterranean Sea.
He explained that the Linking project would contribute to activate the economic and trade exchange between Nile basin countries and Mediterranean countries.
