WhatsApp has been making strides in the instant messaging space. The Facebook-owned entity skid past several other rival apps in the past few months as it stuffed the app with much-needed features and even introduced a dedicated app for small and medium businesses. As a result of this the instant messenger has now touched a new user base milestone of 1.5 billion. This number was announced by Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg in Q4 2017 results، which just came out، gadgets now reported.

Zuckerberg said that WhatsApp witnesses around 60 billion messages being sent every day. Until July last year، the platform garnered around 1.3 billion users with 1 billion daily active users. To bring this in reference، when Facebook acquired WhatsApp in 2014 in $19 billion، the messaging firm had 450 million monthly active users and 315 million daily active users، as mentioned by TechCrunch.

During the earning call، Zuckerberg added that both Facebook-owned services، WhatsApp and Instagram take the top two ranks when it comes to Story-sharing products.

Facebook is likely to generate more revenue than before from its WhatsApp platform، thanks to WhatsApp for Business. For now، the app is free but the social media giant could soon begin charging business customers for the service. The service was introduced last year and finally made the app officially available in India earlier this month.

WhatsApp for Business is built on the same platform as the WhatsApp Messenger. However، it boasts of some additional features. These include verified profiles along with features like Quick Replies، Greeting Messages and Away Messages. App users can also access messaging statistics for a given period of time. It is so far available only for Android users. However، the company has said that it plans to roll out the app to other platforms as well. But there is no specific time frame mentioned.
