CIBF 2018: Summary of 49th edition of the Cairo International Book Fair 8th day

In a form of confirming the return of Egypt to the forefront of the cultural scene-the 49th edition of the Cairo International Book Fair (CIBF)، kicked off January 27 by the Minister of Culture، Dr. Inas Abdel Dayam، at the Cairo International Convention Centre، in Nasr City، where it witnessed a high turnout from Egyptians since then.

The Minister of Culture expressed her happiness with the huge participation of the various publishing houses، stressing that the intensive activities of the book fair produce a cultural movement that reflects positively on the society، aims to achieve development in all fields، and promotes public with means to face attempts of destruction and sabotage.

The CIBF runs from January 27 to February 10، with the theme for the year is "Soft Power: How?”، and CIBF's Person of the Year is Abdel Rahman al-Sharkawi.

The late Egyptian writer Abdel Rahman al-Sharkawi was chosen as the character of this edition due to his long history of writing about Algeria. He is the scenarist of Djamila Bouhired، in addition to his hundred literary novels، as well as his journalistic long history.

The 49th edition hosts a lot of new activities for the first time، such as establishing theaters، cinema halls and fine arts halls، in addition to increasing the number of books dedicated to children.

It compromises 1194 pavilions along 117 stands to sell the books.

In this edition، 27 nations will participate in the Book Fair، which includes 15 Arab، 10 foreign and 3 African countries، with Algeria as the guest of honor of this edition.

Algeria is officially participating in the book fair's activities through a number of writers and writers and some 70 publishers، about 10% of Algerian publishers.

Meanwhile، the participating Arab countries include Morocco، Saudi Arabia، Bahrain، Jordan، Kuwait، Oman،

Algeria، United Arab Emirates، Syria، Libya، Iraq، Lebanon، Yemen، Palestine، and Tunisia.

The participating African countries include Sudan، Somalia، and Ethiopia.

The participating foreign countries include America، Greece، Germany، France، Russia، Italy، China، Paraguay، and India.

In this edition، the number of publishers has reached 867 publishers، including 367 Arab publishers، 9

foreigners، and 3 Africans، 485 Egyptian publishers (7 press organizations and 34 government institutions)

The book fair also offers a cultural and artistic program divided into 16 official halls.

A large number of people flocked to the 49th edition of the Cairo International Book Fair (CIBF) on its eighth day، where they welcomed by volunteer teams، who had spread in the camps and cultural events sites، and distributed the public with seminars schedules as well.

The visitors were treated to a mix of cultural experiences from the Egyptian Knowledge Bank، Arts pavilion، and the creativity pavilion، in addition to everything else the book fair had to offer.

-Egyptian Knowledge Bank-
Egyptian Knowledge Bank (EKB) is an online library archive and provides one of the world's unique experience، where it offers numerous sources of information and resources for educators، researchers، students، and the general public of Egypt.

EKB is considered to be the largest digital library in the world with 25 thousand international writers.

Egyptian Knowledge Bank consists of four sections.

The first section is for children and cartoons until they reach the school age، the second is for the ordinary reader who cares about his culture and wishes to expand his perception.

However، the third is the "student and teacher" section، which is concerned with developing the culture

of the recipient and the sender for the weight of their educational knowledge، and the fourth is for the researchers and providing them with sources.

The representative of Al-Azhar University Information Center، Mai Al-Kail revealed to "Sada el Balad" website that this is their second time in a row، to participation in the International Book Fair.

-Creativity pavilion-

The Creativity Forum، at the "Makkawi Said" pavilion، hosted the seminar "The journey of a writer and a book"، about the great poet Sayed Hegab، and his experience and a critical reading of his work، chaired by Poet Mohamed Ahmed Bahgat.

During the seminar، Mohamed announced the publication of Sayed Hegab full work by the Egyptian General Book Organization، which includes 7 books، two of which will be debuted for the first time.

He also unveiled details about the new editions and its most important features.

Renowned Egyptian poet and songwriter Sayed Hegab has left us on January 25 at the age of 77، after a battle with disease.

He ruled the throne of drama with his soundtracks for many years، where his repertoire includes a number of famous TV series including، "Lyaly El-Helmya"، "elshahd wel dmoa"، "al layl w akhro"، "Hawanem Garden city"، and "Arabesk".

-Arts pavilion-
The arts pavilion at the Cairo International Fair continued to present a variety of showcases for the visitors، including performances by Aswan Folkore troupe، Port Said Band for Arab Music، and Luxor Folklore Troupe.

The Aswan Folkore troupe، led by Shaaban Hussain، kicked off the first stage act، where they performed a number of their artistic work including "El-Kaff"،"El-Zafah"، "EL-Karaj"، "El-Bashariyah"، "El-Souk"، "El-Bahr Shad"، "Natar"، and "Ana el Anubi".

The Port Said Band for Arab Music، led by Maestro Ragab Al-Shazly، followed by، where they performed a number of their songs as well as songs by other singers، including Mohamed Abdel Moteleeb's "Ahl al-Mahba"، Mohamed Abd El Wahab's "Ana wel azab we Hawak"، and Saad Abd El Wahab's "El donia resha fe Hawa".

Luxor Folkore troupe staged the final act، where they performed a number of distinctive heritage acts including Pharaohic، Saidi، Falahi، Tanura، and others.

-Music and singing encyclopedia-
The book fair released the first part of the music and singing encyclopedia in Egypt in the 20th century by Dr. Zein Nassar، where it reviews the life of the most important works of the great Egyptian composers in 100 years.

"I discovered in 1977 that the history of Arabic music is not written and that there are few books published about some of the greatest composers only، although this information is needed by the researchers in the institutes of music and also by the media who write about the Egyptian music on various occasions، so I find that it is necessary to provide a scientific reference" Zein announced in press remarks on Saturday.

It is expected that the number of visitors to five million visitors this year، an increase of one million visitors from last year.
