Mercedes-Benz officially reveals fourth-gen A Class after lengthy teaser campaign، auto industriya reported.
After being spotted by our spies on several occasions، as well as being teased by the automaker themselves، Mercedes-Benz has officially unveiled the 2019 A Class to the world. Made bigger and more high-tech، the all-new A Class comes with several newly-introduced technologies along with segment-firsts that make it a cut above the rest according to Mercedes-Benz.
“New technologies must place the focus on people and make their lives easier. The new A-Class does this in many ways، and becomes an emotional and intelligent companion،” said Ola Källenius، member of the Board of Management of Daimler AG responsible for Group Research and Mercedes-Benz Cars.
Beginning with the car's exterior، the all-new features hatchback a sporty and emotional design that gives the hatchback a new look. Called 'Sensual Purity'، the design philosophy used in the A Class departs from its then rounded design، for a sleeker and sharper look. The front fascia is dominated by the signature progressive grill along with flat LED headlights reminiscent on the AMG GT. Even the front bumper benefitted from the redesign as it now has a sportier look compared to the last model.
The rear، on the other hand، now comes with a new bumper and tailgate design، along with elongated LED taillights. With it، the car now appears wider than before as the redesign now also emphasizes the car's broader lines. There are also new wheel choices to be had that are available from 16 to 19 inches in diameter.
In terms of size، the new-generation hatchback now measures 4419mm long، 1796mm wide، 1440mm tall and has a 2729mm wheelbase. Side-by-side with the outgoing generation، the all-new hatchback is 127mm longer، 16mm wider and has a 30mm longer wheelbase. Height has been retained، however، for the all-new model.
Unlike its predecessor which focused on a sporty interior، the 2019 now has a completely redesigned cabin. It now has a more modern and avant-garde look that mimics that of more upscale models of the Mercedes-Benz lineup. Highlighting the dashboard's new wing-shaped inspired design is the optional LED ambient lighting that can be set to 64 different colors.
Another key feature present in the new are the free-standing monitors that act as the car's instrument panel and multi-info display، as well as the new multmedia system dubbed MBUX (Mercedes-Benz User Experience). It comes with new wireless connectivity features، navigation، touchscreen function، voice control with speech recognition that can be activated by saying “Hey Mercedes”، and a heads-up display.
It even comes with Vehicle Tracker، a feature which allows the driver to find the car easier. Should the car suffer an impact or gets towed، the system can even send a message to the owner to inform them.
An array of new turbocharged gasoline- and diesel-powered engines are available for the all-new. First up is the 1.4-liter turbo inline-four that powers the A200. It produces 163 PS at 5500 rpm along with 250 Nm of torque at 1620 rpm. It can be mated to either a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission or six-speed manual. Depending on the transmission of choice، it can sprint from 0 – 100 kmh in either 8 seconds flat or 8.2 seconds with the manual.
Delivering more punch is the 2.0-liter turbocharged engine that is available on the A250. It puts out 224 PS at 5500 rpm and comes with 350 Nm of torque at 1800 rpm. A seven-speed 7G-Tronic gearbox sends powers to the front wheels while 0 – 100 kmh is achieved at 6.2 seconds. Top speed is rated 250 kmh.، 25 kmh more than the A200.
Finally، there's the lone diesel version of the all-new A Class called the A180 d. The engine musters 116 PS at 4000 rpm while torque is rated at 260 Nm and is readily available between 1750 – 2500 rpm. Like the A250، the diesel-powered is only available with a seven-speed dual-clutch that allows it to go from 0 – 100 kmh in 10.5 seconds. Its، top speed، on the other is at 202 kmh.
All models can come with the optional permanent all-wheel drive system called 4MATIC. According to the company، the system has been given an update and now delivers a sportier and more efficient drive. In addition، the rear axle differential with an integrated multiplate clutch is no longer hydraulically operated and is now electro-mechanically powered.
For an even safer driving experience، Mercedes-Benz installed several Intelligent Drive functions from the S-Class and had it put in the all-new hatchback. Thanks to a high-tech camera، a radar-based system and several sensors، it gives the 2019 A Class the ability to drive semi-autonomously. This allows the car to see the 500 meters of the road up ahead. With Active Distance Assist، the car can automatically adjust its speed depending on the route and in varying types of roads. Other features such as Lane Change Assist and Active Emergency Stop can also be specified for additional safety.
