CIBF 2018: A brief on the 12th day of Cairo International Book Fair

The 49th edition of the Cairo International Book Fair (CIBF)، resumed its activities for the 12th day، however، with the start of the second terms in schools، the number of people flocking the book fair began to decline.
On the 12th day، the visitors were confined to a small number of young adults، and with the majority of the visitors were the elders.
Nonetheless، the visitors were welcomed by volunteer teams، who had spread in the pavilions and cultural events sites.
The 12th day saw major discounts on book prices، amid average purchases from the elders، with the young adults were keen to purchase more than one book.
The visitors were treated to a mix of cultural experiences، in addition to everything else the book fair had to offer.
The Management of archaeological awareness of the Egyptian Antiquities Sector had organized several workshops for children under the title "Leave them with us and be comfortable"، where the parents can safely leave their children there and freely tour the book fair.
Head of the Egyptian archeology sector، Ayman Ashmawy revealed in press remarks that these kinds of workshops aim at the development of the archeological awareness of the child.
The workshops include workshops on the ancient Egyptian language، carnival of the pyramids، and the simulation model of small archaeological excavations.
He pointed out that the ministry has participated in other workshops and gave a series of lectures by professors and archaeologists، which witnessed a lot of lovers of archeology and civilization from the book fair visitors.
Meanwhile، Al-Azhar Al-Sharif participated at the International Book Fair with five books combating fanatical suspicions at the book fair.
Al-Azhar aims to strengthen scientific، intellectual، cultural، advocacy and social communication with all segments of society at all levels and to be a safe haven for seekers of Islamic sciences and a refuge for those who are keen to learn about their religious and worldly lives.
The book fair also witnessed a number of performances from the General Authority for Culture Palaces، as well as a play by psychiatric patients at Abbasiya hospital in cooperation with patients with neuropathy.
The play dealt with the psychological problems of the patients، including the society's view of their illness، social isolation، psychological and social rehabilitation of the patients، ways to get out of the crucible isolation and introversion affecting them and how to overcome them and involve them in public life.
Meanwhile، in the children's camp for art shows "Mohammed Fawzi"، the visitors were treated to a puppet show by agyal troupe، who presented a number of their artistic performances.
The visitors were also treated to a number of performances by the special needs children's group، Shubra Al -Khaymah special needs choir، and to Bahtim choir،، in continuation to the activities of the General Authority for Culture Palaces at the book fair.
Meanwhile، in the Children's Camp for technical workshops and cultural meetings "Baba Sharou"، a number of Manual workshops activities continued، including workshops by the Egyptian General Book Authority، in addition to cultural competitions for the development of children's skills and abilities took place.
On the other hand، In the Majdi Abdul Rahim Corner، the National Center for Child Culture of the Supreme Council of Culture presented a workshop on "Health Awareness and how to choose food and find out the reasons that lead to bacteria to avoid it" presented by Dr. Doaa Abdel Rahman.
The Heritage Research Center of the National Library and Documentation Center also participated in a series of workshops، the first workshop entitled "heritage simplification for the youth”، presented by Dr. Noura Abdel-Azim.
The second workshop entitled "Publishing manuscript in modern form" presented by Mohammed Abu Ezz، while the third is entitled "The Character of Al-Maqrizi" presented by researcher Ejalal Ali.
Meanwhile، the fourth، entitled "The difference between document and manuscript" presented by Dr. Radhi Mohammed Jouda.
On the other hand، the Egyptian Association of Russian and Soviet University Graduates organized a meet and greet on the Egyptian-Russian film "Smile You are in Egypt" at Youssef Chahine Hall، amid the presence of the film crew.
The meeting began with the screening the film’s trailer، followed by a meeting with the film crew، including، film producer Mohammed Al-Sharaf and director Khaled Mehran.
The film is based on a novel by the same name by the Russian writer Elena Srebriakova. She participated in the writing of script and dialogue with Emad Al-Sibai، and produced by Pyramids productions.
The work aims to promote Egyptian tourism in the world in general and Russia in particular.
The film is scheduled for premiere simultaneously at the Egyptian and Russian theaters.
The film co-starring stars a large number of Russian actors، including Munther Rihneh، Mohamed Nour، Ahmed Azmi، Yasser Al-Tobji، Ahmed Gamal Saeed and Ayman Mansour.
Meanwhile، it is set for singer Nader Abualif to perform the film’s official song.
-CIBF in-depth- In a form of confirming the return of Egypt to the forefront of the cultural scene-the 49th edition of the Cairo International Book Fair (CIBF)، kicked off January 27 by the Minister of Culture، Dr. Inas Abdel Dayam، at the Cairo International Convention Centre، in Nasr City، where it witnessed a high turnout from Egyptians since then.
The Minister of Culture expressed her happiness with the huge participation of the various publishing houses، stressing that the intensive activities of the book fair produce a cultural movement that reflects positively on the society، aims to achieve development in all fields، and promotes public with means to face attempts of destruction and sabotage.
The CIBF runs from January 27 to February 10، with the theme for the year is "Soft Power: How?”، and CIBF's Person of the Year is Abdel Rahman al-Sharkawi.
The late Egyptian writer Abdel Rahman al-Sharkawi was chosen as the character of this edition due to his long history of writing about Algeria. He is the scenarist of Djamila Bouhired، in addition to his hundred literary novels، as well as his journalistic long history.
The 49th edition hosts a lot of new activities for the first time، such as establishing theaters، cinema halls and fine arts halls، in addition to increasing the number of books dedicated to children.
It compromises 1194 pavilions along 117 stands to sell the books.
In this edition، 27 nations will participate in the Book Fair، which includes 15 Arab، 10 foreign and 3 African countries، with Algeria as the guest of honor of this edition.
Algeria is officially participating in the book fair's activities through a number of writers and writers and some 70 publishers، about 10% of Algerian publishers.
Meanwhile، the participating Arab countries include Morocco، Saudi Arabia، Bahrain، Jordan، Kuwait، Oman،
Algeria، United Arab Emirates، Syria، Libya، Iraq، Lebanon، Yemen، Palestine، and Tunisia.
The participating African countries include Sudan، Somalia، and Ethiopia.
The participating foreign countries include America، Greece، Germany، France، Russia، Italy، China، Paraguay، and India.
In this edition، the number of publishers has reached 867 publishers، including 367 Arab publishers، 9 foreigners، and 3 Africans، 485 Egyptian publishers (7 press organizations and 34 government institutions)
The book fair also offers a cultural and artistic program divided into 16 official halls.
Noteworthy، the head of the General Egyptian Book Organization، and the CIBF official organizer Dr. Haitham Al-Haj، announced that the number of visitors to the book fair reached 3.7 million visitors on the 11th day.
He stressed that it was the citizens who had won this year in proving that the reading rate has developed، through their keenness to visit the book fair.
Haitham al-Hajj told the Middle East News Agency on Wednesday that the sales of General Egyptian Book Organization publications amounted this year to 300 million pounds، while، the sold publications surpassed 200 thousand copies.
Taha Hussein's book " Al-Fitna Al-Kubra” Among the Authority’s best-selling books، pointing that the books that review extremist thought and terrorism accounted for 70% of sales، which reflects on the interest of the book fair’s audience، especially the youth، he added.
It is expected that the number of visitors to five million visitors this year، an increase of one million visitors from last year.
