Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi said that the government was not a party in the deal to import gas from Israel، but a private sector company was the importer one.
“Egypt is now moving on to be the largest regional energy center in the Arab region،” Al Sisi said today during inauguration a number of investors' services centers, via Video conference.
Last weeks، Reuters has reported that an Egyptian company will buy $15 billion of Israeli natural gas in two 10-year agreements announced on Monday، a major deal that Israel hopes will strengthen diplomatic ties.
“Egypt is becoming a real gas hub،” Yossi Abu، CEO of Delek subsidiary Delek Drilling LP، told Reuters. “This deal is the first deal of potentially more to come.”
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the agreements would “strengthen our economy (and) strengthen regional ties”.
