Video: The 23rd Muscat International Book Fair has kicked off

Here's a glimpse of the 23rd Muscat International Book Fair that's currently taking place at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre in the Sultanate's capital، times of Oman reported.

Hundreds of book sellers and publishers from the GCC and beyond are participating in the fair، with over 500،000 titles represented by 878 publishers from 28 countries. The book fair will conclude on March 3، 2018.

Mwasalat is also providing free trips to and from the 23rd Muscat International Book Fair، "providing round trips from Burj Al Sahwa bus station to Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre".

Noteworthy, H E Dr Abdulmunim bin Mansour bin Said al Hasani، Minister of Information said that the fair will be held under the patronage of H E Sayyid Mohammed bin Sultan al Busaidi، Minister of State and Governor of Dhofar, muscat daily reported.

As many as 783 publishing houses from 28 countries will take part in the fair this year. Of these، 603 publishing houses will be taking part directly and 180 indirectly through agencies.

H E Dr Hasani also said that 28 countries، including 17 Arab countries such as Egypt، Lebanon، Syria، Jordan، the UAE، Kuwait، Saudi Arabia، Iraq، Palestine، Sudan، Bahrain، Tunisia، Algeria، Qatar، Morocco، Libya are taking part.

The other countries participating include، the UK، Iran، Turkey، Canada، Japan، Sweden، Brunei، Italy، US، Germany and Pakistan.

He added that the fair spread over 11،412sq m will have 1،200 pavilions. A number of Omani intellectuals who have made significant contributions too will be honoured this year، he said.

H E Sheikh Hamad bin Hilal al Ma’amari، Undersecretary for Cultural Affairs، in the Ministry of Heritage and Culture and deputy chairman of the organising committee spoke of some new programmes planned. He added that the fair will also celebrate the achievements of those from the field of literature who passed away recently.

H E Ali bin Khalfan al Jabri، Undersecretary in the Ministry of Information also reviewed efforts of the media committee.
