International Women’s Day 2018: Google doodle celebrates 12 incredible stories
On International Women’s Day، the team over at Google Doodle want to hear your life story، and to set the ball rolling، they have showcased illustrated stories by 12 female artists of all backgrounds to share their personal stories in a series of visual narratives، according to Indian express.

For Thursday’s doodle، the featured stories represent “a moment، person، or event that has impacted their lives as women. While each artist tells a unique story، the themes are universal، reminding us of how much we often have in common.” The idea was to celebrate the everyday women living around the world.

Showcased internationally، the works have been translated in 80-plus languages، and the artists include Anna Haifisch (Nov 1989)، Chihiro Tekuchi (Ages and Stages)، Esteli Meza (My Aunt Blossoms)، Francesca Sanna (The Box)، Isuri (Aarthi the amazing)، Kalabo Poppy Moletsane (Ntsoaki’s Victory)، Kaveri Gopalakrishnan (Up on the Roof)، Laerte (Love)، Philippa Rice (Trust)، Saffa Khan (Homeland)، Tillie Walden (Minutes) and Tunalaya Dunn (Inwards).

While each of these stories is moving، Google has also invited women across the world to celebrate their stories and journeys on International Women’s Day with the hashtag #HerStoryOurStory on social media.

This hashtag campaign started late March 7 night، and has picked up quite a momentum across online platforms such as Twitter and Facebook، with many women and organisations responding to the call with their own journeys or stories of incredible women they know.

People، organisations and governments around the world have their own way of celebrating Women’s Day، from honouring individuals to showcasing tributes. One such interesting tribute is by Barbie، which announced it would release 17 dolls honouring historical and modern-day women.

Facebook’s Credit Her Campaign Will Debut on International Women’s Day
International Women’s Day was the most-talked-about moment of 2017 on Facebook، and the social network outlined several initiatives for the 2018 version، which takes place Thursday (March 8)، according to Adweek magazine.

Facebook said women 18 through 24 accounted for more than one-fourth of conversation about International Women’s Day on the social network over the past three months، leading discussion at a rate three times higher than other topics on Facebook.

The social network added that 43 percent of pages are owned by women، up 21 percent compared with last year and up by more than 94 percent from 2015.

Finally، women create nearly 70 percent of all fundraisers on Facebook.

Facebook’s own page will feature the Credit Her campaign Thursday، putting the spotlight on women from the past and present and their contributions، including Billie Jean King and Big Mama Thornton.

People using Facebook’s flagship mobile application will begin seeing messages atop their News Feed alerting them to special cards، photo frames and themed backgrounds for text posts، which can also be accessed here.

Finally، Facebook is launching a new Community Finder tool for its #SheMeansBusiness program، which was established in 2016. The tool will give female entrepreneurs the ability to connect with each other in order to share questions، advice، resources and support.

The social network will also host Open Door events at its offices throughout the world، offering hands-on workshops، discussions and networking opportunities. More information is available here.

Facebook global chief diversity officer Maxine Williams said in a Newsroom post، “Unique to 2017، International Women’s Day was the most-talked-about moment of the year. It was a moment that rallied the world around empowering women، and that was just the beginning of mounting energy for women’s movements that shows no signs of slowing down in 2018. Every day، we see women using groups، pages for small business and fundraisers to truly make a positive impact in their communities.”
