Egypt’s prime minister Sherif Ismail headed on Sunday a meeting to follow up the development process in “
Magra El-Oyoun” area in Misr El Qadima and Robbiki Leather City project.
The prime minister stressed the state's interest in the leather industry، and providing various support for its development and upgrading، thus contributing to increasing its production capacity and exportation.
“Magra El-Oyoun” is a wall containing water، locating on 2800 km، from the mouth of the Gulf، to the area of Bab al-Qarafa in Cairo Governorate، Egypt.
“Magra El-Oyoun” area was established by Salah El Deen El Ayoubi، the first sultan of Egypt and Syria and the founder of the Ayyubid dynasty.
The area، then، was renovated by Sultan al-Nasir Muhammad ibn Qalawun in 1312.
Nowadays، there is an integrated project for the development of the area. The goal of this project is to restore the wall to its former status as one of the oldest historic wall and put it on the world tourism map.
Over the past years، the area has turned into a garbage dump and animal pens. then، the Supreme Council of Antiquities developed it at a cost of several million pounds، but the hands of negligence extended to it again until the Council adopted a project to restore the wall to its first status.
The project aims to transform the area into a tourist and cultural area by opening shops for handicrafts and leather products as well as restaurants and cafes
