Minister of Youth and Sport Khaled Abdel Aziz mourned late Egyptian Football Association (EFA) president Samir Zaher after he passed away this evening after battling colon cancer over the past five years.

“May God bless Captain Samir Zaher، former president of the Egyptian Football Association and ex board member of Heliopolis Club. (I extend) the most sincere condolences to the family of the deceased and the community of Egyptian football and sports. We belong to Allah and to Him we shall return." Abdel Aziz wrote on Twitter.

Former Egyptian Football Association (EFA) president Samir Zaher died on Tuesday after a long struggle with illness. He was 75.

Zaher served two spells in charge of the Egyptian football governing association - from 1996-99 and 2005-2012.

He was credited for a hugely-successful era for the Egyptian national team، mostly named as the golden generation that won the Nations Cup for Egypt in 2006، 2008 and 2010.

He resigned from his post following Egypt's worst football tragedy when over 70 Ahly fans were killed after being confronted by rival Masry supporters following an end of an ill-tempered league game in February، 2012.
