The Prison Service Sector within the Interior Ministry issued، under President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi Decree No. 18 for 2018، pardons for 677 prisoners on the occasion of the Police Day and the annual anniversary of 25th January 2011 Revolution.
The Prisons Sector held many committees to scrutinize the conditions of prisoners to decide those who will pardoned.
The list does not include those convicted in violence and terror-related charges، according to informed sources.
The pardon comes in light of the ministry’s plan to elevate human rights values and to apply punitive measures in a modern sense.
According to the constitution، the Egyptian president has the right to issue pardons for convicted prisoners after consulting with the Cabinet.
It has been a regular practice that Egypt’s presidents pardon prisoners during national and religious occasions.
