The Egyptian archeological mission working on reducing ground water under the Temple of Kom Ombo in Aswan Governorate، about 1000 south to Cairo، has succeeded in excavating the head of the Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius.
It is worth to mention that Marcus Aurelius was a Roman emperor during the period from 161 to 180، ruling jointly with his adoptive brother، Lucius Verus، until Verus' death in 169 and jointly with his son، Commodus، from 177 till Aurelius' own death.
The imperial head and other statues for him were very rare in Egypt.
Head of the Roman emperor has shaggy hair and thick curled beard.
It was found as the experts cleaning the well in vicinity of the temple at depth of 15 meters.
That well was also used as Nilometer.
