Jordan condemned the decision of Guatemala to move its embassy in Israel to the occupied city of Jerusalem.
"The decision of the Guatemalan government to move its embassy to occupied Jerusalem is a flagrant violation of international law and UN resolutions.” Jordainian spokemans for the government Mohamed Al Moa’meny said.
“UN General Assembly resolution has rejected US President Donald Trump recognition Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.”
He added that the decision of Guatemalan government is irresponsible and would fuel violence in the region.
“The decision would encourage Israel to continue violating international law،” he noted.
He stressed that Jordan، as the custodian of Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem، condemns and denounces in the strongest terms such an irresponsible step.
Noteworthy، on the 6th of December، Trump decided to move U.S embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. A move that inflamed tension in the region and destroyed the prospects of peace in the Middle East.
UN General Assembly convened on 21 December for an emergency session، passed a resolution supported by decisive 128 against 9 with 35 abstentions declaring Trump's decision "null and void”.
